Kennel training (read)
One of the kindest things you can teach your doxie is to be comfortable and calm in his kennel. So many doxies, when they injure their backs, require 8 weeks of crate rest in order to recover and have the best possible outcome. If they've never slept in a kennel before, they can become quite stressed! Please do them a kindness, and train them to have a safe, quiet place inside their kennel.

The following message was in reply to the "parent" topic above.

Agree with the crate recommendation

My beloved Charlie, whom I lost in 2002, had back issues. I thought that I was going to have to put him to sleep when his back went out, but the vet was able to successful treat him (without surgery). After that, he was confined to a room with a crate when I left for work for the day and I would not permit him to use stairs.

The new girls that I adopted in October 2007 both sleep in a crate at night. They know that when they are put in there, it's time for bed, and they don't make a peep until morning. I sleep easy knowing that they are safe and confined until I get up.
