From the horse's mouth.... (read) I started this web site a little over one year ago as a Christmas present for my girlfriend, who grew up with a doxie named Max (see the site dedication at the bottom right). She has always noticed photos of dachshunds on the Internet and pointed them out to me, so I finally decided to do something about it - Building web sites is my day job, but oddly enough I never really built something elaborate like this just for fun. The first 4 or 5 profiles were people we knew or had met personally - then the word started getting out after emailing a lot of dachshund groups around the country. Some groups are clearly more active than others - hence we have "pockets" of dogs in certain parts of the U.S. You can see the breakdown here - I try to update this every month or two. I'm glad you're enjoying the site - we have almost 500 profiles of dogs on the site now, and more members than that (since some members don't have pet profiles, they just join to participate in the chats etc).
