Tommy my first longhair and 2nd doxie was adopted and he was the sweetest boy. It was like he knew we saved him and he was always so grateful.

I Believe You Are Right!!!
I do think they are very aware that they are the special chosen ones. Or in my case, both Cyndi and Macy definitely chose me. I have no doubt of that. I wish I had more space and time, because I'd have lots of furever doxies.
