Doxies and Pancreatitis (read) In February of this year our two beautiful babies both had a serious battle with pancreatitis thanks to an especially greasy batch of hooves that they chewed on one weekend. Now Oscar has gotten it again and it really having a hard time with it. We took him to the vet and they kept him until late Friday. Since then we are still unable to feed him, he hasn't eaten since last Tuesday!! The vet said to give him pepto every 8 hours and continue fasting him for another day. I am sooooo worried about him, from what I've read this is a very serious thing for them to get. Please let me know if any of you have had babies to get this horrible problem and what helped them get better and if you are having this recurring. Thanks!!! Doxies and Pancreatitis Yes my Andy had pancreatitis and was hospitalized for 3 days on IV's. The pancreas has to rest, this is why they put them on IV's and withhold food. Their tummys get upset and Pepcid AC helps with all that stomach acid. Andy developed diabetes which lead to the pancreatitis and we nearly lost him before we realized he was sick. He was losing weight, which prompted us to take him to the Vet for a complete blood panel. Excessive peeing and drinking are also signs. They can get over pancreatitis with proper care but they will be prone to it the rest of their life since once the pancreas has been damaged it is susceptible to repeat attacks.
