We have two blind DOXIES
(read)
We have two blind doxies. Trudy and her daughter Kallie both lost their eyesight due to glaucoma. We have learned that this may be an inherited trait. Trudy had 3 pups, but only Kallie became blind. And you are so right! Doxies are so clever, you would never know or realize that they were becoming blind! It was awhile before we were aware that Trudy was having eye problems! It is truly amazing how they can adapt. If it were you or I, we would still be lost in our own homes. I don't think you have to worry about doing anything different. Both Trudy and Kallie are quite comfortable around our house. They seem to be able to "see" with their nose. They may bump into something, but it is ever so softly. Kallie came to us at age 10, her owner could no longer take care of her because of illiness. Kallie learned the lay out of our home in just a day...even how to use the ramps (which she did not have in her old home)! They both walk excellent on the leash! Although they do not run and chase rocks like their brother Joe, they do enjoy stopping to smell the roses and enjoy the scents around them! They truly amaze us everyday with their ability to adapt to what we would call a major handicap. The only thing we do different...is we try not to move the furniture around. You will have many wonderful times together! Devra and Joe
