Hornets and red ants got to Dachshund Luke (read)
Last summer in Florida Dachshund Luke was stung by a Hornet. He gave a little yelp and jumped into the air but we were lucky as it did not seem to cause any problems with him. Unlike when as a puppy and sat on a red ants nest! Poor little boy was bitten all over. I had to put him in the bath to get all the ants off. He did become very aware of ants nests after that and never walked on one again.

The following message was in reply to the "parent" topic above.

Fire Ants

If you are ever in Florida and there is a heavy rain be careful as fire ants get washed out of their nst and will form a ball and attach to anything that gets near them. They have been know to kill horses and people even. A small dog will not stand a chance with them.
