Abby Got Lucky
(read)
It's been a long time since I have returned to this site due to many family problems unrelated to Abby's reactions to her vaccinations. Thank you for caring enough to inquire about her health, and I am so sorry that you lost your beloved Jack Russell. Abby has had this kind of autistic-like reaction in the past, but with each episode the intensity increases, with this one being the worst by far. It took Abby about 6 days to return to her normal self. A very scary week for us! I would not allow her vet to give her a steroid shot because my former dachshund developed steroid-induced Cushing's Disease. The vet suggested a titer test next year which I will have done, but I probably will never again allow her to have vaccinations. She is 7 years old and just had her 3-year rabies so she is good till she is 10 on that front, but as far as the DPT shot goes, I will not allow her to ever have it again. She lives a very sheltered life and exercises in our fenced-in yard. I'm beginning to think that Big Pharma has its fingers on the pulse of our animals' health requiring too many vaccinations and medications. Don't get me wrong, I believe in prescription medications but think that too much is required and dispensed.

Vaccinations
You are correct. Vaccinations are big money in the veterinary arena. Not only the money generated by selling vaccinations but the required trips to the Vet. I just lost one of my babies to Diabetes, the result of too many steroids. I have another doxie that is OCD, no doubt from over vaccination. No way a senior dog needs any kind of vaccinations after the age of 5. They are well protected and any further vaccinations are detrimental to their health.
