Alternative Flea & Tick Powder
I have personally used a product for the last 3 years called "Herbal Internal Powder for Dogs and Cats (The Yeast Free Formula)" by a company called Earth Animals. This product basically changes the characteristics of the blood to deter fleas and ticks. Their website is www.earthanimal.com, they have a store locater as well. Because I administer it to 7 animals, I tend to go through a tub in about 2-3 months. So if you have 1 Doxie it should last over a year, and at about $25.00 - $30.00 you can see the savings add up, not to mention knowing your animals are chemically free from the pharmaceutical companies!!
The ingredients are simple - Alfalfa Powder, Garlic Powder, Blue-Green Algae (Spirulina), Kelp Powder, Hops, Papaya Leaf, Nettles Leaf, and Hawthorn Berry Powder
A book of reference I use for all botanicals is "Herbs for Pets", this is the 2nd Edition. The first book I have as well, it is 3 times the size and has more information then the smaller 2nd Edition. Either book is fine as a reference point and a greater understanding of what you are adding to your animals meals and what for exactly. Though I do add Vitamin C to my Honey's food as well as Cranberry Powder; I never add both at the same time, because cranberries are loaded with Vitamin C to begin with. Again knowing is half the battle in caring for any living creature.
