Successor Dog in NC
My first Doxie passed end of May, three months shy of 18 years... debating some decisions in my head and looking for input from the experiences of others:
A. I know how long the grieving process takes will vary from one person to the next but wonder about taking more time there vs. being able to take advantage of very limited work hours due to CV to aid in transitioning a pup or adoptee....
B. Fiance is the type that wants to pickup any dog she encounters and there is a nephew/niece pre-teen and lesser ages who will be around on occasion... I wonder about staying Doxie or maybe going to something similar but a bit more tolerant of being picked up. First wasn't so on board with anyone other than me picking up but he predated fiance so maybe that was why and a new Doxie properly socialized might be fine with them? Children are pretty responsible for their ages but they are children.
C. I joined a NC Facebook Group and 'liked' to get updates from a local rescue, get lots of suggestions for other groups. Anyone report any positive or negative experiences with such or recommend similar groups?
D. Got first from a private breeder who seems to be retired from online searching. Any recommendations for others. Live in the Greensboro/Winston/High Point area.
