Consider rescueing a senior dog. (read)
I run a dachshund rescue and many people surrender older dogs. Some are legitimate reasons, like family illness, some arent (" we want a puppy")! The senior dogs - 6 years and over - are so great. They are usually housetrained, dont chew, dont try to escape, they have lovely manners and are just so easy to live with, yet they rarely get adopted - they end up staying in rescue. And we love them . But they deserve a home of their own. Getting older is no crime as we all know! These dogs are just treasues and no one understands how deserving they are. Dachshunds are one of the longest living breeds and can live to be 20! They have plenty of life left and no dog comes with a guarantee. Please take a chance on a senior at some point - it'll be a rewarding decision.

The following message was in reply to the "parent" topic above.

I have an adopted 3 yo long-hair doxie and...

...am considering a 10 and 12 yo Mom and Son pair that were surrendered to the SPCA after their senior owner could no longer care for them. They are obviously well bonded to each other and that gives me pause. My 3yo is an only dog for 2 years since I adopted her, what can I expect if I bring in a bonded pair. One on one I think would be OK but 2 on 1???? Any advice anyone?
