Hello Desi

So glad to see a handsome boy like you as DOTD. I love your shiny black coat. A lot has happened at my house since our last visit. I now have 3 adopted dachshunds and 1 adopted Pom. Enjoy your special day of fame.(Herbie's mom)

Try dropping it to 3/4 cup and you can add some frozen green beans, thawed out, for some extra bulk in their stomach. There are treat balls that you can put their kibble in and have them walk around and push the treat ball around to get extra steps in. They can go at their own pace too. Sabrett had the same problem with weight. The vet suggested UNSALTED, NO Flavor, human rice cakes. They are huge so I break them in pieces and put them in her cookie jar. She gets them and carrots as treats, It really helps with weight control and the best part is your not denying those beautiful puppies their treats!

Thank you very much!

This has been a special surprise and we are thrilled beyond words!Yes, I'm aware that Desi (especially) as well as Dot & Dash are overweight; it's been challenging to adjust to their now senior status, less activity outside when the weather was so cold - even here in California! - and my own physical limitations, but we have been working on this for a while now. I've recently changed to grain free food for them and am trying to determine the correct amount; currently they're getting 1/2 cup twice a day of the Blue Buffalo which is much less than the package suggests yet it's apparently still too much. They're all in the vicinity of 30 pounds, so any suggestions other owners can offer are welcome. I'll get Dot & Dash's profiles up as soon as I can! Thank you for your wonderful thoughts and doxie love!Debbie

Hi Desi!

You are a handsome boy, you look a lot like our Cory Jo. Cory is a tweenie too, but he is overweight. Had his first back trouble not too long ago so we worry about his weight constantly. What a awesome story and such a lovely family of little doxies! Looks like lots of fun at your house! Congratulations on getting a loving home and doxie friends to play with and congratulations on being todays DOTD!!

I am so glad that Desi came to you during a time of difficult loss in your life. I know what that feels like because I lost my dad to cancer, too young, and Georgia came home to join us, and that fresh young girl was the medicine I needed. I must say with all kindness that you are killing your sweetie with kindness, over feeding him. He needs to lose a bunch of weight. It's not good for his health or his back, and I wish that he be with you many more years. Some things we have no control over, but certainly taking care that their weight is at it's best is within our control. Wishing you many healthy and happy years Desi.

What a lovely story!!!Mom gets saved/adopted three times. Can't think of anything better than a house full of little doxies. So glad you are all together and I'm sure there are lots of doxie snuggles to go around. Wishing you a wonderful day and can't wait to see pictures of all the kiddos!
