We got filthy & had to have baths & ear cleanings but IT WAS SO WORTH IT! We love the beach! It has been very nice weather here all week. Hope you are getting settled in back at home & it is not too cold there. We are proud of mommy & want to share some news with you. Mommy will be going to speak at the state capitol in Sacramento for the HSUS forum on Feb. 12th. She is hoping to do some good there & will be discussing pet disaster planning & this foreclosure pet abandonment mess. Maybe she can help lots of doggies! It was fun & we got tons of attention. We were her models for some of the demos. & also for the massage info. She has been dealing with animal emergencies ALL WEEK! We got to see lots of dogs but think the dachshunds were the best!! One placed in the top three! Mommy was busy talking to people about pet first aid & disaster planning both days. She talked with some folks out of the area about becoming instructors & some who wanted to help animals with disasters, like these fires right now. The demo. went great & mommy ALMOST had to deal with a little emergency. One of the judges had a heat stroke, so the EMT helped her. Mommy rushed over & thought it was a dog at first having an emergency. She is really not well trained for helping people so she was nervous. Red Cross has been working hard to get all the animals out of the fire areas. Mommy met a lady today that had been donating time to walk the horses. It is heartwarming to see these folks help animals. Mommy LOVES doing this work! Take care & talk to you soon. She says that ALL DOXIES are 10s. We know daddy does awesome photos, but mommy says she isn't voting for the photos just the dogs & gives every doxie she meets on here a 10. All doxies are wonderful she says, & we agree!! Hope you are well & so is your mommy. We are getting ready to go to a big kennel club dog show this weekend with mommy. She has to do a presentation & demo. for the Red Cross about pet first aid. It is busy here today because she is getting ready to go & there is a big fire in Monticeto, about an hour & 1/2 from us, so the Red Cross is really busy. We live about 2 hrs. from Ventura. The fires south of us are a real mess today because the wind has picked up alot. Mommy is hoping they get all the animals out ok. We even got to sleep in her California king bed with all the other babies. Mommy liked her because she took great care of us all. The gal had 3 females & 1 male, & only bred them once a year for 3 yrs., & then they were all fixed. Mommy had always rescued animals before BUT never had a doxie of her own. Her grandma & mom had doxies in the home & she loved it. She really wanted a puppy so bad & wanted to raise it & give it a great life. It was a hard choice to make & so that is why Penny means so much to her. She says that the Doxie Gods gave Penny to her. It was wonderful for mommy to rescue a dog again but especially since it was her first rescue doxie!! Penny means the WORLD to her! We are happy to have her as our new sister too, because she is lots of fun. Mommy has recently seen the sadness of puppy mills, foreclosures, & disaster that hurts SO many animals. She in 2007, became the Am. Red Cross Pet First Aid instructor for San Luis Obispo & Santa Barbara Counties. She has been trying to get folks to know & understand the needs of their animals. She had a terrible accident with a loose dog that propelled her into this wonderful program. It is a great thing & we get to be her models. She has pet manikins for the CPR stuff. It is a great class & you should see if your area offers it. It not only goes over what is a healthy pet but helps you with minor & major emergencies. Examples: shock, wound care, car accidents, CPR & rescue breathing, choking, burns, poisoning, heat stroke, seizures, allergic reactions, & much more. It also covers The Pet Disaster Relief Act which was a bill passed in Jan. 2006 after all the mess of Hurricane Katrina. It says that all states in the USA HAVE to have a disaster plan for ALL small & large animals with shelter, food, & water. She teaches the disaster planning & help folks to build a first aid kit for their pets. Some areas are still in need of instructors & manikins, plus areas the animals can go to in an emergency situation, so it is important to get the word out. Mommy was just gone for a week to Georgia & we missed her so much. It was good for Penny to see that mommy could leave & would come back though. Mommy took photos of us with her so she wouldn't miss us SO much. Mommy did a demo. & talk, & signed up 10 instructors for 13 counties in the area. It was a good trip, she said. We are glad for her but also glad she is home. Oh, & daddy says thanks about our pictures!! We are lucky because our daddy is a pro. photographer so we get the advantage of having super photos. Turns out it was a puppy mill and I helped with rescuing about 30 dogs. Many of these dogs had bad teeth too because the breeder didn't want to pay for a vet to take care of them.... So sad!!! Penny says, "I had already had babies & I'm only a baby myself!" Mommy couldn't believe people can be so cruel. Our local doxie club has a rescue called Foxy Doxy Rescue & they help stop alot of puppy mills. It is sad that ANYONE could hurt a dachshund! We love our home & Penny says, "I am so lucky to be in a nice, warm home where my parents love me after what I went through. I was left in a foreclosure for 2 weeks to die. When they found me I was scared, cold, thin, & thirsty. I am happy to have all the food, water, shelter, & LOVE that I can handle." We hope to have you as our new friend & hope you have a great rest of your life with your family. Oh, & Ventura is about 2 hrs. from us. We go down to Santa Barbara sometimes to play on the beach. I had litter after liter until I got sick. My mom came and got me and took me to the Vet. He said my teeth were very bad and had to all come out. My mom said O.K. So now I do not have any teeth but I feel so much better. I have been with my new mom for two years and I am queen of my house and get to eat the best wet food in a can. I love my mommy! |
