It seemed the Dachshunds were adopted before we even received an e-mail that any had been dropped off. We finally found a local breeder who had us bring Wendy in to see how she would react around puppies. The first meeting was very uneventful, at least for Wendy, we fell in love with Nikki and her sister so it was a hard choice which to select. When we got Nikki home we set up a play fence area in the house to keep her in so the two could get adjusted. The area was large enough for her crate, food and potty paper as well as one of use to play with her. This gave Wendy enough contact through the fence until she adjusted. As the two got to playing we would on occasion have to put Wendy in a chair to give her some breathing space. This was necessary sometimes if Wendy was not ready for partner when she was ready to take a nap. Soon the "war bone" became the favorite toy that the two girls would wrestle and chase each other over to get control of it. These games could go on for hours and drove my wife crazy as she tried to get her work done during the day. As Wendy's eyesight has faded the games have decreased and the community snuggles seem to have increased. So our only suggestion is to take things slowly. Wendy was a only dog and was teased by the neighbor kids as a puppy and has not had much contact with other dogs. On walks she pretty much ignores them. After all she's a Dachshund not a run of the mill dog. She is not afraid to show her Doxitude when proctecting her home and family but is very loving with the people she meets away from our home even if she won't let them in our home. So you'll have to judge how Dewdrop reacts around other dogs and take things slow. Just make sure Dewdrop knows she is still the top Dach.
