Oh, if only Bungee could speak English. I'm nearly convinced he would if he could... Bungee came into the animal shelter I was working in in Vancouver, Washington in late 2007 as a stray picked up by animal control. He appeared to be well cared for as he was fairly round (or cylindrical as I like to say) and even smelled of someone's home. Judging by the state of his teeth he was judged to be about 8 years old then. Surely, someone would come looking for him. No one did... He was so scared in the shelter he would not allow anyone to approach or touch him. Feeding and cleaning for him became a torturous event and after his 5 day "stray hold," it was determined Bungee would be euthanized due to his fear aggression. I was the one designated to go get him and bring him to "the room." I steadied myself and approached with a blanket to cover him for both of our protection. Once I scooped him up however, Bungee leaned into me and began to relax. He even leaned his head back so that he could look me right in the eye. It was a moment that brings tears to my eyes even now. How many other dogs don't get that chance? That chance to make a life saving connection? I held Bungee to me, safely wrapped in his blanket, for a good hour and thought long and hard about what I was going to do with this little man. There was no doubt, he was a little Man. A strong little personality in that body. I took him home to foster that evening, and had an inkling he would not be going back to the shelter. He was Mine. I named him Bungee because there seemed to be an invisible tether between he and I. Where ever I was, he was. Period. Bungee has become "the fun police" within my pack and is absolutely my heart of hearts. He is protective, silly, sweet beyond measure, and has a soul a thousand miles deep. He recently injured his neck and had to have surgery to repair his vertebrae and I was faced with having to make a decision to euthanize my Bungee. With the help of a fellow Doxie friend, I was able to have Bungee's surgery and have the chance to share my life with him for a while longer. Invaluable time.

The Bald Spot
After the fear of losing Bungee due to his neck injury, I was so happy to have him home, I've kissed a bald spot on the top of his little head. I love this little guy!
