I grew up with Dachshunds but never had one to call my very own. That all changed when I found Dieter (pronounced DEE-ter) in March 2011.
I saw Dieter's profile on Petfinder.com and instantly felt a connection with him. I'd spent the past several months looking through numerous adoption listings online but none tugged on my heartstrings like than his. There was just something about him I couldn't quite put my finger on. All I knew is that I had to adopt him as soon as I could - especially considering his recent history of being adopted out only to be returned. I was determined to give him a well-deserved forever home.
He was overweight, heartworm positive, had several teeth missing and worst of all: someone had butchered his beautiful long-haired coat and tried to make him into a short-haired Doxie! Nevertheless, there was no doubt in my mind that Dieter and I were meant to be together.
I put in an adoption application for him right away and I received a phone call from his foster mom the very next day. Within a week, I met Dieter and his foster mom face-to-face and signed his adoption papers the very same day. He got along wonderfully with my boyfriend's dog and didn't hesitate to climb in my lap and give me kisses! O', how my heart melted with happiness! We've been inseparable ever since!
