Its been several months since my Maxi passed. I have been actively searching all of the "rescues" and every other source that have been mentioned to me without connecting to a dachshund to have for my own (once you go dachshund you'll never go back!). Funny thing I live within barking distance to the Humane Society in Sonoma County, California and not until last week did I think to check at that facility. I looked at the web site and sure as my dachshund has short legs there he was! So (since my truck was broke down) I took a walk to that facility and he had already been put on hold for another family to be considered. So I played in the room they had him in for a while and the lady had me fill out an application anyway. The next day I walked again to see if he was still there, he was and I asked how long they have to make this decision. The next day I called and he was mine! What a little boy he is! So full of excitement and we are getting along famously. The property I live on has a great pasture to run through and as I guess they are all still resting from the winter, any day now Bert should be able to chase a field full of jack rabbits. I hope to get pictures of that. I take Bert to work with me and on friday a man came in and recognized him as perhaps the doxie that his aunt is missing (around the time he was found and given to the Humane Society) and there were a couple of other details that were similar that this man had mentioned about my Bert. I would like to talk to this guys aunt and see if this is true, and take it from there. But until this is resolved Bert and I are going to walk in the pasture and check every rabbit hole and should one take off running I'm sure Bert will have the time of his life! I have only one picture of Bert and hope to get more soon. An update about Berts other life, the lady came to my work but it was my day off. She doesn't speak english so she brought a gal to translate for her. She was told to come back on Wed. but she didn't, nor did she show on Thur. or Fri. or Sat. My friends tell me that I should not worry that if she wanted Bert she would have shown up. I just want to do the right thing and if someone loves him as much as I do I can understand wanting him back. So I still only have this pic. of him because the field is wet and muddy (hope the jack rabbits are ok). Did I mention how much I love "DailyDoxie.com" and all of the beautiful doxies that are out there in the world!
On Sept. 20, 2013 Bert died and at first I thought it was foul play. I found out and I am accepting his death as complications from his pancretis (sp) and from wandering from home in a state of confusion and pain. Bert was a perfect companion, all Bert wanted to do is be with me, and he and I did everything together. I miss him.

Humane Society
This is the back of the Sonoma County Humane Society where I adopted Bert, it was taken from the back fence of the property that we live on. Bert was just barking distance away.

Another New Friend "Dulce"
My friend adopted "Dulce" last year, she was named "Tiny" and she was very timid scared of humans. My friend has two other dogs and at that time I had my Maxi. Dulce wasn't scared of other dogs. The other pets (also two beautiful young cats) helped my friend transition her into the sweet little girl that bloomed from her "Tiny" status to our "Dulce".

ZoeZoe, Roscoe and Berto
Bert and Zoey's first trip to the ocean, Roscoe (been there lots of times). Even though Bert was always ten good steps behind that long leggeded Roscoe he kept on running to catch up!
