Howie ( Sir Howart Barnes ) was born July 31, 2006. I first saw him when my best friend went to adopt two of his puppies
( ended up adopting 3 because he couldn't stand the idea of leaving one there all alone to find another home - 1 boy & 2 girls -Larry, Curly & Mo, they were born Aug 24,2007) I fell in love with there Dad ( Howie ) but the owners said it would be a long time before he was retired. I got lucky.... he became available and I adopted him Nov 16, 2008. He's a shy dog and very affectionate. Howie goes to work everyday with his Dad, never far from my side.
He is the love of my life, one spoiled rotten DAWG......
2014 Update: Woke up Tuesday morning Sept 16 and poor Mister Howie was in pain and couldn't stand or walk. Immediately took him to his vet and they referred me to Dr Kevin Coleman at Northlake Veterinary Surgery, Howie has a ruptured disk. Dr Coleman preformed surgery Tuesday afternoon. Howie came thru the operation fine but as the case with this kind of operation they don't know rather he will be able to walk again. Brought Howie home Friday afternoon, what a shock to see his long hair all shaved off his back and staples all down his spine. Had a few very rough nights, Dad got very little sleep taking him out every few hours, holding him up and trying to get him to take care of business. Finally 9 days later he has his first bowel movement! Those antibiotics can be rough on a dog! Returned to see his doctor on Thursday, he says Howie is doing good for what he's been thru, tells me to be patient that he thinks Howie will walk again, might be 3 or 4 weeks before he does but to just keep working with him. Patience! Monday Sept 29 6:00am I carried Howie out to his patch sat him down and he did NOT just fall over or set down! He stood on his own and hobbled a few steps and squatted to take care of business! Dad stood there in tears!!! Thank you Lord, my boy is going to be okay and walk again! I want to tell anyone that ever has a dog with this problem, get the dog to the VET immediately, the sooner the better there chances. If you are in the Atlanta area I highly recomment Dr Kevin Coleman at Northlake Veterinary Surgery! He was available 24 hours a day, urged me to call him or his staff at any hour to report any changes in Howie's condition or with any questions. THESE PEOPLE ARE GREAT !!!
January 2015: Howie can't walk a 5k but he is doing great, drags his left leg a bit but can walk, run and play with his buddy Mavis and his kids. So thankful.
Oct 31,2015 Poor Howie! We were visiting my Mom in Tn and Howie's back went out again. The vet is out of town so he recommended that I take him to Univ of Ge in Athens, Ga. The vet called the people he knew there and they were waiting when we got there and immediately starting prepping Howie for surgery at 10:15pm. Surgery went smooth. Howie is up walking after only 4 days! I have been blessed with another miracle. We've been thru this before, he has a long ways to go to full recovery but we'll get him back in good shape. Aug 31, 2018 Howie celebrated his 12'th birthday today! Doing GREAT !!
Oct 15, 2018 6am Very sad day for our little family, Mister Howie's daughter, Miss Mo passed away suddenly. Pretty sure it was from heart failure. Sudden and totally unexpected. She gave us 11 wonderful years and we will love and miss her forever. See you up there Mo. Today May 26 2021 Mister Howie left us to join his daughter Mo beyond the rainbow.. He lived a wonderful life for 14 years and 10 months. Howie will be missed by all the people's lives he touched. Dad is heartbroken.
