Keely was born May 5, 2005, in Florida. I had only met one longhaired dachshund prior to that - yes, I was ignorant! - at a property showing (I'm a Realtor) and I was immediately charmed by the dog. I researched the breed, found a breeder for whom socializing the pups was important, and brought my Keely home when she was 8 weeks old. We already had a Bearded Collie, Maggie, who took to Keely right away - and vice versa! When Keely was a puppy, she loved to play tug of war with Maggie, which was a pretty funny thing to watch with the difference in size. By the time Keely was 2, she grew tired of playing with Maggie (not sure why), so we brought Penny into the family so Keely would have a doxie sister to play with. Keely is calm, maternal (very protective of both her sisters), and regal (in fact, her middle name is Queen). Penny is a high-energy devilish whirlwind, so they balance each other beautifully and are inseparable. When she's not with her sister, Keely is delighted to be our naptime buddy.
