Dachsies With Moxie Mama writes:
Thai is our 14 year old DRNA Sanctuary adoption. He started life with us as our first foster, but who could not love this tough guy? He suffered from IVDD four years ago and his surgery was successful. he does have an outrageous gait when he walks, and he does have arthritis, but he is very active. Barks the entire time we are gone, and sleeps with Ginger and Chip in the big bed every night. Beautiful training- he goes to the door when he needs to go outside and if I take too long, he will scratch the door to remind me. He is very fast and the kitchen is properly patrolled- no enemies lurking there!!! Meals are at 6 and 6 precisely, or you will answer to him. Thai is also a Master Chef, as he helps me with every meal prep. The garbage cans must be kept off the floor, or you will hear a crash and then find him deep inside, looking for the dreaded garbage can badgers. He has adapted well to being part of a dachshund pack, and allows me to pick him up for couch time. He rides well in the car. He must be picked up for the couch and the stairs, and he endures this gracefully.
He recently had to spend some time at the local dachsie spa, due to his rear legs becoming problematic. He was pampered for six weeks, and came back to us in fighting shape, six pounds lighter! No more treats, but lots of love for him. While there he had two seizures, which the vet determined, based on negative blood work, were likely due to a tumor on his brain. Nothing can be done due to his advanced age, so he will live out his life in luxury
UPDATE- The Thai Master went to the Rainbow Bridge on 25 June 2012, after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure and being treated for it for a month.
