I got Tinker from a breeder who is now my best friend. I had lost my Dachshund on 6/2/08. His name was Lucky and he was 58 days short of being 17 years old. I was not doing well after Lucky's passing and my husband told me to start looking for a new Dachshund. I thought I would never be able to love another Dachshund after my Lucky. When I went to the breeders house to look at her TWO Dachshund males I just cried. I wasn't sure what to do. How do I pick one over the other. I showed both of them to my husband. I wanted one pup and he wanted the other. What ever would we do. Well I tell you, We took them both. My pick was Tinker. My husbands pick was Chief. Turns out Chief looks just like my Lucky. You would never be able to tell them apart looks wise. What a blessing they both have been to me. I think God everyday for my babies.
****** On 6/29/13 Tinker became paralyzed in his back legs. I was devastated by this. I thought I would lose him for sure. Within the hour Tinker was at the Vet. Tinker stayed at the Vet for the next 7 days. he received injections every day. After several meetings with my Vet trying to decide his fate we decided to bring him home. I have NEVER believed in making any dog live like this. I felt it was cruel. However I just couldn't give up on him. He has the biggest heart ever. I had a wheelchair cart built for him to see if that would help him walk again. Tinker was able to have surgery. So that wasn't an option. After the first time in his cart Tinker was able to stand on his own. We did physical and water therapy everyday. With each day he continued to get stronger. We were so hopeful. After two months Tinker is able to stand don his own. He has been able to walk again. He can wage his tail too. Tinker will never fully recover he will most likely always need his cart since he is very wobbly. Tinker is very Happy and Healthy. He just has trouble walking. I myself have had four back surgeries. I decided we would stick together and continue to work hard and love each other. I have never regretted my decision to allow Tinker to live a full life. We have made major changes how we live our life. My baby is by my side and happy. You never know what you can handle until you are faced with it.
