The only way Lady will ever risk taking me to the states is if she knows for sure she will not return. It is a very long trip and very hard on older dogs' organs. My vet doesn't recommend it. I don't fit under the seat so I have to fly in baggage. Lady doesn't think she can survive having me fly all the way to the US. When she goes home to visit, I stay with a family, or now, at the Children's Home. I am not scared of much but I am frightened of the sound that fireworks make and the sound that hot air balloons make. I act very nervous when I see a hot air balloon and hear that popping noise it makes. I hope that you guys are having some nice weather. It's been really hot here for a long time but we had a nice week last week. Now it's warmer again but it should be cooling down for fall in a few weeks. We were very close to many of the wild fires in Central Texas but completely unaffected by them (though mom works with a few people who lost their homes and mom knows someone from church who lost their home). For some reason she won't eat some of them. She LOVES to unravel them but does't eat the rawhide. I buy them in bulk. At least a pack a day. The vet said her teeth are like a puppies. YAY for that! I read that you chase gophers and field mice - that must be so much fun! We don't have gophers but we have rabbits! I chase a rabbit out of my back yard practically every evening. Once Mom and I saw a family of 5 on one of our walks. It's a warm winter here so far. It's in the 50s now but later this week it will get up to almost 80. Our worst months are January and February. It snowed last February - it will be interesting to see if it snows again this year (I don't think it's ever snowed 2 years in a row). Do you have any plans for New Years Eve? I think Mom and I are going to stay in our jammies and watch movies all night. We play ball inside twice a day and put carpet where there's hard flooring for good traction. I hide their ball and they have to go hunting to find it. I put their breakfast into a treat ball so they have to push the ball around the house to get some breakfast. Just a few kibble at a time, then a few more. I took some video of Engli with her treat ball and breakfast. When Macy looses some weight she will have more energy too to help keep the weight off. In fact, October is usually the best month. It's brisk in the morning, cool in the afternoon, and nice in the evening. We can't feel the heat in the air anymore - it's wonderful! Mom leaves the door open on weekends and my cat sisters and I spend a good amount of time in the back yard. Mom has to go out there every night and collect the toys I have taken out in the evening. I bake these for Sabrett and I freeze them. I take a 2 inch bone form and before I bake them I cut them in half. She LOVES them. Preheat oven to 350. Mix 1/2 cup shredded low fat cheddar cheese with 3 1/2 cups wheat flour. Add 1/4 cup skim milk & 1 tablespoon margarine & 1 cup beef broth. Knead until firm and roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Bake 30 minutes on ungreased cookie sheet. Makes apprx 2 1/2 dozen. Sometimes I roll thinner but I always cut in half. Just watch cause they can cook in 15 min if thinner. The doctor once told me that she should have no more than 1/2 cup of food INCLUDING treats for the day. She was 12 pounds now 11. Try them, they are natural food and she may like them. She loves fish. Anyway we thought she was allergic to certain foods (turned out to be her rabies shot) and the dermatologist suggested the rice cakes. They are good for them, plain, unsalted and she has been eating them for a long time. I also make lofat treats myself. VERY easy, with cheese and I freeze them. they are a hard bone. Buddy is growing less timid each day and Alli is an extrovert and stands up to all dogs - I think that since Buddy cannot bark well he is afraid of most dogs but he is so much better.
