I got my Max from a small breeder just south of South Bend in 2001. I had just bought my first house and I was single. When I was growing up my family always had at least 4 dogs in the house and I missed having a dog when I was in my apartment. I like to say that Max adopted me because when I went to look at the puppies they had for sale, I was set on getting a black & tan girl doxie. My Mom had gone with me to look at the puppies. I actually picked up the one girl they had (black & tan), but my Mom soon handed me a red boy doxie and he curled up into my neck and hair and just sighed. Soon he was asleep and I was in love. I brought Max home with me that night and he's been my baby ever since. While I was single he was my companion and clown.
I got married in 2005 to a wonderful man. He had been married previously and had once had a doxie...so he automatically fell in love with Max. And Max adopted him and his son, J.L, and their husky named Shy. Shy was hesitant for a while and made it known who was the boss in the household, but she has grown to love Max just as much as everyone else. He is by far the smartest, funniest and most loving dog I have ever had. Smart isn't even the full description of his personality....he's determined, head-strong and NEVER FORGETS anything! And he makes us laugh every day.
I could go on forever telling stories about him. How he ate one of my socks when he was only 3 months old and he had to have surgery to remove it...the vet's office still talks about it and it's been 7 years! He doesn't touch socks at all now! LOL He isn't even interested in toys that much...he prefers Grandpa's tools (steel and iron) or basketballs. No little doggie toys for Max!
He also likes to suck his tail before he falls asleep....sorta like a child sucks their thumb. Everyone thinks it is gross, but I think it is adorable.
Also he has an obsession with cheese. My husband (who is a youth pastor) and I had been talking about church and kept saying Jesus....and we couldn't figure out why Max was going nuts! All the sudden it dawned on me! He thought we were saying 'Cheese' and he kept running over to the fridge (where we keep the cheese) and barking. Now we just ask him, "Max do you love Jesus?" and he goes nuts. It's quite funny.

Max in the backyard
Max likes to hang out in the backyard by Daddy's pond and flowers.
|
|
Sun worshiper
Max likes sitting in the sun...even if it is just a sliver coming in thru the living room window.
|
|
Can I take a nap please?
Max napping in the sun.

|
I'm gonna get it!
Max is in pursuit of something...probably the basketball Daddy gets out for him.

JL & Max
Max and JL bonding....so cute!

Shy & Max
Shy actually let Max sleep on her bed...she layed down beside it. She does love him after all! They don't usually let us see them getting along like this, so it was a treat to catch them in the act.
