On October 2, 2014 Baxter was Doxie of the day again. The warm memories of having him by my side still make me smile. You see on 8/12/08 he passed away at the ripe old age of 19 and went in his sleep. 6 years later he's still in my thoughts even though I've kept rescuing unwanted doxies. At the moment I have 4 doxies and 1 pitbull. They use him as a pillow at night and he cuddles up to them. Last month I lost my forever foster, Mr Stubbs. I'm up to 10 urns in my house, each one with a memory that's precious to me. But Baxter meant the world to me. When I go outside and looks at the stars I feel like all my previous pups are looking down at me winking and waiting to be reunited where we'll never say good-bye again.

On Sunday April 10th, Baxter was once again doxie of the day on this site. While I pass his urn everyday and remember with fondness his short time with me the flood of emotions came back like the day I first lost him. I so appreciate the kind words I received across the country. Since Baxter left, Belle and Picasso have crossed over the bridge. Picasso went one month before I lost my dad in 2010. Soon Lucky will follow the other doxies that have gone on before him as he's giving the signs of the end of his life. But there are so many others that need help that I can't stop; and saving at least one life at a time makes the heartbreak all worth it. I can't undo their terrible pass of abuse or abandonment but I can direct a happier future. I have 3 fosters at my house at the moment and 3 of my own; Beezer, Buddy and Lucky. May all your doxies live a long healthy life and may they give you imeasurable love as as only a dog can give.

On August 12th 2008, my best friend Baxter, crossed over the rainbow bridge. Since then the birds don't chirp outside my window and the sun doesn't shine as bright. My heart is broken. My consolation is that he lived to a ripe old age and went in his own bed while my other doxie Belle stayed by his side keeping him company. He's free to run like a puppy again and rejoin the others that have gone before him. I know angels guided him to his destination. We loved each other and he'll never be forgotten. Goodbye for now my best friend.

Baxter is now 19 years old and my best friend. He's seen me though a lot of rough times and is always there to help me through it. Now that he's blind I'm helping him adapt. He makes it though really well during the daylight hours but has a hard time at night. I miss how he'd push the other pups out of my lap to claim his space and make me laugh. He came from DARE and at the moment I've got 5 other furballs in the house besides him. He minds his own business and is willing to share his bed with my mini doxie named Belle who is about 14 years old but keeps up with my 4 year old. Baxter has traveled with me as far as Virginia by car and just slept most of the way. Then we drove to TN. We're just a couple of ole bachelors who are best friends!

Sadly Andy crossed the bridge 10/11/05 from a tumor. It ripped me apart. 8 months later I lost Chester. His body shut down I believe from bad eating habits from his previous owner and the damage caught up with him. Both of them were seniors and I have their ashes along with their collars and pictures. This month I rescued Buddy who was 5 years old but only survive a few hours in my house and passed away from a staff infection after surgery. Baxter has stuck with me during all these trying times. I still have my other 3 doxies and 2 fosters. They all keep me too busy to feel sorry for myself and even now I:m looking at Baxter walk through the house to get to the water dish before going back to napping and I have no regrets that I've had and have these furballs in my life.

brothers
Baxter and his brother Andy. Unfortunetly Andy passed away 10/2005 from a tumor across 3 vertebrea in his neck. It tore me apart to have to say goodbye. His ashes and collar are in an urn in a special place. I still miss the little runt. He was a "down" dog and was operated on his back. He started walking and wagging his tail but in about a year went down again. Inspite of not having bowel or bladder control because of his condition I have no regrets that Andy came into my home and heart. I still shed a tear cause I miss him at times. He decided he needed to defend me from strangers and was a tough little guy. Even on his last day he ate a full meal but sense that it was goodbye. When I held him in my arms saying goodbye he lifted up his head and licked my face ( something he has never done before ) as if to say goodbye and it's ok. He went bravely and in no pain.

Princess Belle
Belle is the princess of the house even though she's more of a tomboy. She's a cuddler though and won't let the boys take advantage of her mini size.

Beezer
Beezer is 4 years old now and another DARE rescue. He was HW+ but now is cleared. I failed as a foster with him cause I adopted him. He's a show stopper and the life of the party.

Picasso
The world revolved around Picasso. He whines when he wants to eat, go out and just about everything. But He's got a cool personality. He came very overweight when I first got him but now he's slimmed down a lot. Wish I could say the same for myself.

Buddy Jr
Buddy Jr came to my house this month, July with "mild HW positive" condition and a very bad skin condition due to being infested with fleas. He's very loving and is being given medicated baths and anti-biotics before starting HW treatment soon. He's a cuddler and is already stealing my heart after only one week. I'm hoping to update his progress to show his changes for the better.

Buddy Jr Update
Buddy's coat has come in nicely in the past few weeks since I rescued him. He's bathed 2x a week with a medicated shampoo. He's excellent when it comes to bathing. Kind of like royalty and he expects to be served. There's no end to his kisses either.

Buddy
Buddy's coat has come in beautifully. I've decided to adopt him myself. sigh. He's a foster failure. He loves to lay at my feet and sleep by my head at night.

Amazing Grace

Meeting kind and loving people like you is a special gift. I think my Herbie was one of the original doxies when this site was first started. Baxter was a blessing and will forever be in our memories.
