Dachshunds are by far my favorite dog and I had been begging my husband forever and finally one day he said "ok". I was so excited and I went to work right away looking for the perfect dachshund. I found a local Dachshund rescue group and thought it would be nice to rescue a dog from there. Little did we know that the dog we rescued would go "Cujo" on my husband and end him up in the hospital with hand surgery. We later discovered that this dog had been abused and probably would never get past it. He went back to live with his foster mom the same day we adopted him.

I don't know how I did it, but I got my husband talked into getting another one...the only stipulation was that it HAD to be a puppy. I found a local breeder and I called her immediately. She said she had 13 puppies from two litters available. So I loaded my husband (bandage and all) into the car and off we went. He was not thrilled about getting another dog to say the least. When we got there the only black and tan female (which is was the original choice) was already purchased by a little girl who had been saving her babysitting money all summer. Since I knew I wanted a black and tan (my redhead passed away about 18 months earlier) with short hair the litter narrowed quite a bit. There were only two that matched this requirement. The decision was hard, but we finally picked one, wrote out the check and off we went to the car. By the time I had gotten my husband in the car and put the puppy on his lap, got around to my side and got in he had already named him!

The puppy would be known as Murphy (registered name: Mighty Murphy Short and Stout). It reminded my husband of a billboard we saw in Ireland (our first trip overseas together) that we thought was so cool. It had a black and tan doxie on it and it was for Murphy's Stout beer...yep, our dog is named after an Irish beer!!!!! I still chuckle today when I think about how he was named, but to look at him, I can't imagine him having any other name...it is just perfect for him AND it is a nice memory of an unforgetable trip!

Hey, I'm talking here

Arrrg
This picture cracks me up, Murf was at the end of a yawn and the look on his face is hysterical.

Murphy & Lola
This is Murphy with his girlfriend Lola!

So handsome

Prison Dog
This was Murphy's first Halloween. He won the costume contest at our local PetCo...we were very proud

Wind Up Swimmer
Murphy LOVES to swim. He is like a wind up toy once he gets into the water. We actually have to take him out of the water to rest and he just crys until he is able to get back in.

Oh my gosh - you are so cool. I wish I swam but I only like to get my toes wet. I'm a big sissy lala mom says. You look like a ham. Love how your name came about - very cool. Have a great fall. Macy

Hello Cool Dude

Your pictures are really great. Could not tell which one is my favorite because they are all great. Get your mom and Dad to go on utube and see the video of the dachshund that swims like an otter. Bet you could do that. I myself have never been swimming, maybe this year my mom will give me a chance. I do enjoy playing with the water hose. Glad you have such a great life. Doxies are special and like no others.

Our Murphy (Murphy Maximus Magoo) is also named after the stout!! LOL! They also look a lot alike, although our Murph is not a fan of water. The picture we have of him swimming...he's swimming for his life! What a cutie!!!
