Update 11/30/11. At the age of 15, Star was diagnosed with cancer on 11/24/11 and died on 11/30/11. She is now at peace and feels no more pain. She was a wonderful and beautiful girl and will remain in our hearts always.
Star is a 13 year old tan miniature long-haired dachshund. She is the sweetest dog in the world and has never growled in her life. She loves Lilly, a 12-year-old black and tan dachshund, who lives with her.
We adopted Star when she was 8 years old, when Daisy, my 12 year old dachshund, died. Lilly was 5 years old and went into a very deep depression. She and Daisy were inseparable and believed they were mother and daughter, although they were not. My firends called Lilly "Shadow" because she and Daisy were literally inseparable. Daisy was perfectly hearlthy up until the night she died in her sleep, which was totally unexpected. As a result, Lilly refused to eat and would spend all day sitting in the corner of our basement grieving.
Then about a month later, the breeder where I found all three of my dachshunds, called me because her husband had become ill and she was unable to care for Star. She asked if I was interested in Star. I took Lilly to her house to stay for the weekend to see if she and Star liked each other. It was a match made in heaven. The day Star came to live with us, Lilly's depression totally disappeared. Today Star and Lilly, although they do not think of themselves as mother and daughter, are totally devoted to each other!
