Buddy and Alli in Silver Lake writes:
It's January 19, 2012 and Buddy's adoption day and birthday - I still remember the first day when I picked him up in downtown Los Angeles from the rescue organization. He was just as handsome as his picture and the first thing he did was wet the car seat, I should have known better because the drive from down south was long and he did need a break. I take all those things in stride now. He and Alli both are very obedient - love and discipline; lots of love - they both stay and wait for their meals, they don't beg, they will sit beside the dinner table and sleep. I could not ask for two better doxies. My friends and family all say they are the best behaved dogs they have seen. I learned from tv dog shows, DVD's what to do and what not to do.
Alli, Buddy and I were in "Training Secrets for Rescued Dogs Magazine" , the current volume 18 published by Dog Fancy Magazine. We are in an article along with our photo which I have included called "Happy Endings".
He is more playful and breaking away from being a one-person dog - he is warming up to human friends. Just before bed he run up and down the halls of the house three to five times back and forth - he loves the attention! He is more playful and has a few toys that he likes to play with. With the rain they both now have yellow rain slickers - Alli does not like the rain! For being raised in those terrible previous breeding conditions Alli is a princess and a real sweetheart.
His Story:
Buddy was adopted on January 19, 2008 through a local Dachshund rescue in Garden Grove CA. I was told that he was rescued from a puppy mill in Fresno, CA in November of 2007, after being caged for approximately four years, having had his vocal cords cut and used only for stud purposes.
I had decided to adopt another Dachshund after retiring in September of 2006, and having plenty of time to spend with a dog. I had my first Dachshund, Heidi, for fourteen years until she passed. Buddy has adapted very well, walks beautifully and is very finicky about what he likes to eat. He is only jumping on and off the ottoman to get to his chair in the master bedroom? He has steps but does not like them - I would suggest having these made out of wood as the ones normally available are molded plastic and move.
He is normally very docile and barks hoarsely when he sees squirrels - he goes crazy and then does not want to move! He also just started barking at me when I pick him up from the groomer - he loves his dad!
He is stubborn at times, a one-person dog, gives me some very strange looks and is always loving. Everyone who meets him always remarks at how attached Buddy is to me. I do not know what I would do without him.
