Princess is a miniature black and tan smooth hair dachshund who is almost 9 years old. She is the love of my life as she had a difficult start in life. I got her from a supposedly good breeder but found out that she was born with only 60% vision in one eye due to a cataract. She was also born with no antibodies from her mother, hence she was very sickly shortly after she was born. She was unable to be housebroken due to a trapped bladder and also had numerous allergies. After 2 years, it was found that she had food, food coloring and grass allergies!
Since then she has been on a special diet and has special conditioners for her skin and she has been fine. To look at her, you would never know that the first years of her life were so difficult.
Princess is a lover. Once you sit down, she is in your lap and promptly falls asleep! She also loves certain toys and those will often find their way to your lap as well.
Although only 10 pounds, Princess has the determination of a much larger dog. Nothing gets in her way when she wants to do something and she doesn't hesitate to bark at larger dogs either!
In the summer of 2011, we moved from Virginia to Medford, Oregon. For the first time, Princess has a fenced back yard and she loves it!! Sunbathing has become her favorite pastime.
When she was 5, her baby brother Fudge entered her life. She tolerated him and finally trained him to her way of life.
Unfortunately, Fudge passed away at 3 years of age from HGE and Princess is alone again(see Fudge's page for photos).
Update May 2012: A new little brother has joined the family...Chester, a blonde wire haired miniature doxie is now sharing the household. Princess has come to love him and he keeps her young and energetic.

You make an extra special DOTD. I am sorry you had such a bad start and life and proud how you did not let any of those things slow you down. How fortunate you have loving parents and now a new brother. Enjoy your day of fame(Herbie's mom)
